What do you do? I make custom and one of a kind clothing and accessories with a squirt of subculture jawesomeness. Short answer? I sew. ;)

What made you start selling your creations? I was in school for nursing, and I needed a break from all of the super technical stuff. Sewing was my creative outlet. I'm insanely practical, maybe to a fault, so the only thing that made it make sense for me to keep sewing as much as I did was to start selling what I made.

What is your most likely distraction? The computer. I can spend hours doing who-knows-what on the computer. It's so much more engrossing than TV.

We all have projects that fail, or don’t come out as planned, tell us about one of yours. I'm really stubborn, so I almost never give up on something. But I can't count the number of times I've cut out a piece wrong, or sewn a neckline to a side seam by accident.

What is your favorite artistic or crafty website? I spend a lot of time on the DiYScene.com forums. There are a lot of talented sellers and diyers there, and it's really awesome to have a group of people that experience the same frustrations/annoyances/problems that I do.

What is your favorite quote or words of inspiration? I've always liked this, for some reason, "Life is life and fun is fun, but it's all so quiet when the goldfish die."

What advice would give to someone wanting to start selling their creations online? Practice. A lot. Don't even think about selling until you've practiced for a few months. Firstly because you really need to hone your skills. But secondly to make sure you really like doing it. After that, it's a lot of patience, persistence, and promotion. Wow, that's a lots of P's.

What song gets you going? "Entertain You" by Jesus and the Fuckin' Miracles

If money were no object, what would you be doing right now? I'm such a fabric junkie... I'd love to design fabric. If I won the lottery, I'd start a small fabric line, in addition to still doing what I already do now.

Your 3 guilty pleasures are: 30's and 40's jazz music, anything with dark chocolate in it or on it, and vintage knick knacks with either mushrooms or owls on them

I know it's only September, but Christmas will be here before we know it. Not to mention, some people, like me are on a budget because they are getting furloughed, laid off, or some other bad thing that this economy is doing to us. So, I will start posting tutorials for things that can awesome gifts for family members.

This super cute Block Photo Puzzle is sure to make any mom, grandma, god mother aunt etc. squeal with delight. It's super simple...just a little time consuming. If you didn't want to put photos on all six sides you could decorate them with designs or even spell out words or initials. Shoes: Candies...I usually shy away from their shoes but I fell in love with these

Earrings: Some cheap place in the mall. I bought them to go with my white dress for white night at a club

Hair: Thrown up at the last minute because it was soooo humid. I had put it in sponge rollers over night but the humidity started attacking it and it was going to be a straight stringy mess in no time.

Just Because I Like My Outfit

I've been inspired by other bloggers like Love Maegan and Blue Collar Catwalk to start posting outfits that I wear. I won't be doing this everyday, because some mornings I am lazy and Just throw on random work pants and top, but other days I feel cute and particularly love my outfit, so I will share on those days. My pics aren't particularly great because I really don't have a a good spot to take them, but I will do my best.

Today features one of the dresses I got from Old Navy. I wanted to show the one I had on yesterday, but my camera battery was beyond dead.

Hello Lovelies!

I am so sorry that I haven't updated lately, but I was going crazy getting ready for Arts in the Heart, which is a big festival and arts and crafts deal here in Augusta. I set up last year and I loved it

It's a three day event with music, awesome food, and artisans from all over the southeast. I meant to post a blog about it beforehand, but I totally forgot. I took Thursday off from my day job to get the last minute stuff together and do my final bit of creating. Friday, we got down there about 2:00 to set up and the festival started at 5:00. Now going into this we knew that there was a chance of rain...a really sucky...horribly bad chance of rain....and we pretty much got monsooned on Friday night. What amazed me is that people were still out wondering, just not buying. Who could blame them, why would you want to walk around in the rain lugging shopping bags? Saturday, was hot and humid, but business was pretty awesome. I sold a fair amount of clothes, much more than I did last year. Last year I mostly had my handpainted stuff, vintage slips and just a few things that I had actually sewn myself, but this year most of my stuff was all my original sewn stuff and reconstructions. It makes me feel good to know know that there are people out there that actually like my peices. I just have to start making more "skinny chic" stuff since most of what I had on hand was L/XL because that's my size. It's something I will have to work on! Sunday, was the final day and it was good as well. Not quite as hot as Saturday, and the rain held off unitl about 5:30 or 6:00. Yesterday, I took the day off from my day job to just breathe, which turned into a me day where I dressed cute and bummed around town. I hit Old Navy, the fabric store, refrained from buying new boots, did some birthday and christmas shopping for the boyfriend and hit Wally World (Wal-Mart). Old Navy was having an awesome clearance sale. I walked out with a bag full of clothes for 48.00. I got 3 dresses, 2 tees, 3 silky tanks and 2 ruffly tanks. The most expensive thing was a dress for $6.24...can't beat that.

What do you do? I'm a professional glass artisan. I create everything from lampworked beads, fused glass and jewelry to leaded and stained glass windows. I've done just about everything you can think of to glass from carving it to repairing it. With the exception of blowing it (so far) there is nothing I cannot do with glass.

What made you start selling your creations? I always wanted a business of my own, so when there was little work for me at the studio where I worked I started concentrating on my own creations and it just grew from there.

What is your most likely distraction? My computer and the interwebs...specifically DIYScene.com.

We all have projects that fail, or don’t come out as planned, tell us about one of yours. I was cooking a batch of glass while in the TNT chat that we have on Thursday evening and got too preoccupied with chat and I overcooked the glass which made the Stained Glass Sugar Skull pieces I was making melt too much. So in the end when they cooled they looked like blobs of glass with stretched out faces. It was horrible!

What advice would give to someone wanting to start selling their creations online? Network, network, network & marketing, marketing, marketing. You just have to do SOMETHING for your business every day even if it's just adding people to your facebook or myspace.

If money were no object, what would you be doing right now? Traveling, taking glass classes at Pilchuck or Eugene Glass Schools, or taking private lessons from well known artists, buying partnership into my favorite studio here in Dallas...Kittrell Riffkind Art Glass, buying new equipment and lots of it, buying a TON of glass, restoring my '81 camero to cherry condition, essentially partying like a rockstar and having tons of fun.

Carly over at Chic Steals has done another awesome designer knock-off, by creating her own DIY version of Tom Binns' Rhinestone and Safety Pin Earrings. They are cute, glam and punky all at the same time. I think they could be dressed up or dressed down. On another completely unrelated note....the Second Season of True Blood is now over...and that makes me a little sad. I love me some Sookie, Eric and Bill. I suppose I will just have to rely on The Vampire Diaries to get my weekly fix of vampires. Then of course New Moon will be out in November...I can't wait for that! Hopefully it is better than Twilight, not that I thought it was really a terrible movie, but I can see where others have complained. I still enjoyed it though. Was it awesome...No? But was it the worst movie I had ever seen...No!

Finally, on a completely un-vampire related note Gossip Girl and One Tree Hill are back tonight. A new episode of Greek will be on too! Thank goodness for DVR!

Apple of my Eye Hoodie Giveaway!!!

What do you do? I make awesome crochet and knit creations. Hats, blankets, iPod cozies... Everything I do is without patterns. I hate following them, so most of my stuff is one of a kind. The cozies and hats were made without patterns, too, so every time I sit down to work on one, I hope I can remember how do do them.

What made you start selling your creations? For the past few years, pretty much everyone I know (including myself) has been popping out babies, so I would make them a gift. Without fail, someone would say, "OH! This is so cute! Do you sell them?" It took a few years, but it finally sunk in that I might get away with selling them. I think it is totally rad that people want to give me money for my creations!

What is your most likely distraction? Well, I have a three year old and a one year old, so they are pretty distracting. (They make great models, though!) I am also a total bookworm, so when I'm not hooking or throwing Cheerios at a kid I've got my nose in a book. Right now my half-read copy of American Psycho is calling my name...

We all have projects that fail, or don’t come out as planned, tell us about one of yours. A few years ago I read a blog about making "plarn" which is cut up plastic shopping bags tied together, and the blog author made a bag to store clothes pins in, the kind you can hang on your clothesline. I thought that was an neat-o idea, so I started making it. It's now 4 years later and I'm almost half done with it. The recycling aspect of it rocks, but actually cutting them up and tying them together sucks. Plus it's not the easist thing to crochet with. Oh, and we started using reusable shopping bags, so now I use any kind of plastic I can get my hands on. To-go bags from Subway, diaper packages, whatever. And it's oh, so hideous. I've never seen anything so ugly.

What is your favorite artistic or crafty website? Etsy, obviously. But I love browsing around www.crochetpatterncentral.com and www.knittingpatterncentral.com for new ideas. Once in a while I'll get a bee in my bonnet and start to follow a pattern, but most of the time I just look at the pictures and try to wing it.

What is your favorite quote or words of inspiration? I think it rocks when my mother (who knits) tells me my stuff is beautiful.

What advice would give to someone wanting to start selling their creations online? Make sure you can do something REALLY WELL. There are so many people out there who can do the same thing as you, and mediocrity doesn't fly. I would look through the pages of Etsy and wish I was a good enough painter, sewer, photographer, etc. to be able to sell my stuff. But I'm only so-so at those arts. After the 83rd person told me how good of a crocheter and knitter I am did it sink in; "Oh, I could sell THAT stuff!" And be yourself. Let your personality show through. Don't be super bland and try to appeal to everyone, because most people will find you boring and move on to the next thing. If you let your uniqueness show through, people respect that. If you turn someone off by having character, then you don't want them buying your stuff anyway. Because they probably suck.

What song gets you going? I'm obsessed with Depeche Mode. Like so bad my husband probably wants to hurt Dave Gahan. But I everytime "Never Gonna Give You Up" by Rick Astley comes on the iPod, I just have to boogie! I mean who can resist that song? Besides my husband. And my parents. And all my friends...

What do you do? I sculpt in polymer clay- fantasy characters and scenes, miniature houses, pen sculptures, animals, whimsical characters, and jewelry. I sew plush World of Warcraft characters as well as cloth dolls for children or collectors. I also knit stuffed animals using my own patterns. I'm always trying new things though, so you never know what you might find in my shop!

What made you start selling your creations? A combination of running out of room to display everything and my friends and family insisting my work was good enough to sell. Making extra money didn't hurt either.

What is your most likely distraction? LIFE! Actually, I live with and care for my 93 year old grandmother, who can be somewhat demanding at times (usually when I'm right in the middle of working). Left alone, I can work for hours on end on a project. These days I just don't have that option, so I do what I can when I can.

We all have projects that fail, or don’t come out as planned, tell us about one of yours. Early in my sculpting career I was attempting to make a female elf warrior. It was my first try at using a wire armature. I only wanted the sculpture to be a maximum of about 8" tall, but I measured the armature wrong and by the time I had most of the head and body sculpted she was about 18" tall, and I'd run out of clay. I never did finish her, but I still have her in storage. I never throw anything out!

What is your favorite artistic or crafty website? ARTFIRE! I get tons of inspiration from all the great artists there. Plus I can buy my supplies there. My Polymer Clay Smooshers Guild is also a wonderful site for inspiration, friendship, and artistic challenge. ByHand.me is another great artistic site. Those are probably my top 3, but I'm drawn to anything artistic or creative, so I regularly find new sites.

What is your favorite quote or words of inspiration? "Just do it!" As I sat there wondering whether or not I should join ArtFire, that quote came to mind. It was the best artistic move I've ever made. I've followed that advice many times in my life. Everything from pushing harder during my workout, to moving in with my Gramma to take care of her. Not that I don't think things through, just that sometimes it comes down to simply doing what needs to be done.

What advice would give to someone wanting to start selling their creations online? First, promotion is very important. You have to get yourself and your work out where people can see it. The internet can be a wonderful tool for promotion. And don't be afraid to learn from others. The things I've learned from my fellow ArtFire artists since Febuary could fill a book. I'm also always trying to learn new artistic techniques and improve my skills. Guilds can be wonderful places to learn, promote, and make friends with similar interests. I adore my Polymer Clay Guild, and have gotten tons of exposure simply by being active within the guild.

What song gets you going? I've loved Guns 'N Roses "Welcome To the Jungle" since it came out. It reminds me of my wild teenage years.

What’s your favorite blog? I don't think I can pick just one!

If money were no object, what would you be doing right now? Living in a big farmhouse on a lake, with lots of animals, and my own (big) craft room. I'd be able to make all the things I've always imagined making, but couldn't afford the supplies.

What do you do? I started out making funky lampshades for themore alternative crowd. Earlier this year I ventured into pillows. Most recently I have split off from my home decor shop and started one for pet products. My two dogs Henry and Willow inspired me.

What made you start selling your creations? I heard about Etsy from a friend and when I checked it out, I became hooked on the whole DIY community. I figured it would be a good way to put my craftiness to use.

What is your most likely distraction? My husband. He feels abandoned if I spend TOO much time in my craft room. The dogs too, they want to play 24 hours a day!

We all have projects that fail, or don’t come out as planned, tell us about one of yours. There have been quite a few! My first few attempts at making lampshade lining was pretty pathetic, I had to rip it off and completely redo it. Everything is a learning process though.

Being Sick and Productive

I love my sinuses. Please note the sarcasm in that previous statement. They have been draining all week, gross, I know, but it's reality. Last night they kicked in full force...runny nose, sneezing and feeling completely miserable. To make matters worse I really needed to wake up this morning and work on a custom skirt for my friend, Jaxyn. I love this girl to death, and she always comes to me with projects that really spark my creativity, but I am insanely busy during the next month. I have a big show in September and she leaves 2 days after the show, so it must be done before hand. I also have to finish putting stuff together for the show, which I am sure I will be doing the morning or night before, as usual. Therefore, I had decided that I was going to work on her skirt this weekend, then my sinuses came along. Luckily, I woke up at seven something this morning feeling not so bad and immediately got to work. Somewhere in my sewing craziness I drank a coke, ate a Pop Tart, ran out of black thread and even fit in a nap. After all was said and done...I have a skirt - or Jaxyn has a skirt I should say. I still have some embellishing to do, but the hard part is done.

Now, one might be thinking, it's just a skirt, whats the big deal. Well...this wasn't just any skirt. It's a thrifted, upcycled big poofy hand dyed creation that I could see in my head, but I wasn't exactly sure how I was going to get there yet. It is made out of a set a sheets, a bunch of men's button downs, lace and ribbon all hand dyed. There were different patterns and undertones in everything so it all got thrown in either wine or black dye earlier this week to give everything a cohesive look. I chopped, ripped and ruffled for about four hours straight this morning. It's part machine sewn, part hand sewn and I love every bit of it. The pictures do not do it justice, and they were taken in my messy carft room. I tried fade out some of the background so yo can fully see the fabulousness that is this skirt, but unfortunately the mannequin can't quite fill it out like a real person can. When you see it in person you can see the plackets from the button downs and the cuffs from the sleeves, but since they are all ruffled they don't scream...HEY I WAS A SHIRT!

It's shorter in the front and actually has a tail in back. It's all kind of crazy, but it will be perfect for the event that she needs it for....which I cannot divulge right now!

Did I mention I also found some time to throw myself together a dress today....don't ask how I don't know!

What do you do?

My main focus is rustic woodworking. I make everything from magnets and buttons all the way up to tables and benches. However, I cant contain my creative side to one medium, so I’m constantly experimenting with new things.

What made you start selling your creations?

Working in the shop was too much fun. I started spending too much time creating, and not enough time working, so money was tight. I figured I may as well share my work with the public.

What is your most likely distraction?

New ideas. When one pops in my head, I have to stop whatever project I’m working on and go mess around with the new idea.

Working with wood is tough. There’s a certain amount of gentleness involved. I was working on a beautiful cedar table and I went to drill a hole into the board to fit a leg in, and CRACK…the board split down the center and fell apart. I was done working for the night after that one.

What is your favorite artistic or crafty website?

I’d have to say Etsy. I came across Etsy a few months ago and love it! The forums and chat rooms are a lot of fun.

What is your favorite quote or words of inspiration?

“Do what you love, love what you do”

What advice would give to someone wanting to start selling their creations online?

Go for it. Check out Etsy, list a few items, and hit the forums. The support and compliments you get on the Etsy Forums are so motivational to keep on creating.

*What song gets you going?

Pretty much anything by the Red Hot Chili Peppers. I have the radio playing most of the time I work, but when the RHCP come on, the radio is ALWAYS turned up!

What do you do?

Currently, I’m an unemployed bum, though I prefer the term starving artist. Just graduated university with a fashion marketing degree and am hoping to start a masters in the autumn.

What made you start selling your creations?

Well I already have another shop on Etsy, but my Toast Rack products don’t really fit in with it so I decided to open another shop just for them. I originally joined Etsy after being persuaded by a friend that I should sell my creations.

What is your most likely distraction?

Oh dear, I think that could be just about anything. I’m very easily distracted, hee hee. Not when it counts though. At the moment its ebay – I love buying books off there. Now if only I could get around to reading them…

When I was 16, I decided I wanted to make my own clothes. All I can say is that I have big respect for people who sew. I broke many sewing machine needles and I almost took my eye out at one point.

The people over a Craftzine threw together some corrugated cardboard, glue and a couple other things to create this fabulous Kitty Wonderland that they can play and sleep on all day. Once again, this was created in Adobe Photoshop 7.0. I had a little mishap printing so I played around a bit. I started with black ink and then went over it in silver and gave it a sort of grungy look.

Childhood Flashback - Pinwheels

I remember when I was child I would always beg my mother for pinwheels when we were at the store. If I was a good little girl I would generally get one since they were cheap. Of course the key was me being a good little girl was the key thing here. If it was early in the day I was generally pretty safe, and I was good in public for the most part, but if was later in the day I had most likely got into some kind of trouble...because well I was Trouble with a capital T. Enough about me though....la la la...I would generally get a pinwheel since they are pretty cheap, but since they pretty cheap they would often get torn up quickly. I was a rough little girl. The only dolls I had were Barbies and I rearranged the body parts. So enough about my childhood...the whole point of this post is so you and you child, or you if your just a big kid at heart can make you own pinwheel.

Yudu Creation

Here is one of my first creations using the Yudu. Before anyone asks, yes I am tattooed. I created the image in Adobe Photoshop 7.0 (old I know).

Apparently, Journeys sold a shirt similar to this. I don't know if it had the Jesus image on it or just the phrase. I never saw it, I rarely even go in that store. I have seen others, many others with the phrase, but never this design. When I created this I wanted to do a take on the whole Jesus is my Homeboy shirts. I like the way it turned out and apparently so do others since I have already sold one! Yay me!

The Yudu

I have always wanted to try screen printing but I have been a bit afraid to. I was scared I would just screw it up royally. So when Provocraft came out with this nifty new machine called the Yudu Screen Printer, I was curious. I researched and read reviews and so far everyone who had tried pretty much liked it so I dove in. Well, I kind of dove in, I asked for it for my birthday and my parents obliged.

I will have to admit that it has been a learning process, but it really is fairly easy and I have a feeling that I was overreacting about the whole screen printing process possbily being a disaster.

I have learned some great tips and tricks at Yudu Forums. They discuss anything and everything concerning the yudu. I found out that I could use other inks and emulsion that would save me money and I have even learned tricks to help perfect my technique. Stay tuned to see some of my yudu work!

I have been a bad girl. I tried out LoudTwitter to see if it would work out for sending my Tweets to my blog for some great DIY tutorials but it was a fail. So I am going to be a good girl and start blogging again. Here is a present for everyone.

I have fell in love with this blog ...love Maegan. This chick seriously rocks. She posts fashion diys most often based on designer items so that you can make your own for a fraction of the price. She has her "Gratuitous Outfit Posts" which I love. You get to see how she combines different items and sometimes uses peices in unconventional ways. She plays dress-up and gives hair how-to's. What's not to love about this girl! Check her out and get inspired!

I am always on the hunt for cute gift tags. I remember when I was younger and I would always pick out the more expensive ones because they were cuter and my mom would never buy them, she would always buys the bargains ones that got you more for your money. Well the people over at Crafting a Green World can show you how to recycle old greeting cards to make your very own gift tags. They use a craft punch, but you could easily use regular scissors or some decorative pinking shears and a plain old hole punch to create some chic recycled gift tags this year.

In the tutorial they have them sitting in a window box outside but I can see many more possibilities for these.
